Sustainability

We want to do our best for creating a lively and active Hanko. We educate ourselves continuously and aim to become better towards the environment and people. Welcome to see what sustainability means to us!

Marks & certification

Good Travel Seal -sertifikaatti, voimassa maaliskuuhun 2025.

Good Travel Seal

Good Travel Seal is a global certificate for travel and tourism related businesses. Its criteria covers environmental management, social responsibility as well as health and safety.

Our hotel has received the Good Travel Seal -certification in March 2023 demonstrating our strong commitment towards sustainable tourism. Even though the certification is officially only for the hotel and restaurant, our spa has also actively participated in the sustainability actions.

Sustainable Travel Finland

In January 2024 we proceeded with our sustainability efforts by participating in the Sustainable Travel Finland -programme. The program is managed by Visit Finland and takes into account environmental, socio-cultural and economic sustainability.

With the support of Visit Hanko the hotel achieved the STF-mark in May 2024.

Cultural heritage

Regatta Spa Hotel has its roots in the historical spa time over hundred years ago. The hotel building designed by Lars Sonck in 1898 is valuable part of the cultural heritage and the modern spa building from 2017 brought Hanko back to being a valued spa town.

Hotel building has been renovated to its original glory in 2012. It’s facade and staircases are protected by The Finnish Heritage Agency, so the future generations can also enjoy this beautiful building. You can find a book about the hotel buildings history and the renovation project from the hotel reception.

Environment

Our hotel and spa is situated in Hanko right next to the Baltic sea. This means the state of the environment directly affects to us and how well we are doing. Doing better towards the environment is one of our most important agendas.

We have some success already – all the electricity and heat we use in our hotel is renewable. Still we have lot to do. During year 2025 our main goal is to recycle 70% of our waste. During year 2024 we recycled 60% of all the waste we produced.

Equality

We’re uncompromisingly against racism, discrimination and harassment of any kind, committed to a community where all are equally valued and respected regardless of their background. In Finland everyone is treated equally, which is one reason for Finland awarded as happiest nation for six years in a row.

We take pride in our diverse team of international workers who come from various ethnic backgrounds. We celebrate and embrace cultural diversity. We are committed to create and maintain a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.

Every employee has the right to work in an encouraging and professional environment where their knowledge, skills and abilities are the factors in their daily life.

We wish that as our valued customer you could help us to achieve our sustainability goals for example by:

  • leaving towels to the floor when you need them changed
  • asking for cleaning only when necessary
  • reducing your water and electricity use
  • respecting our staff and other guests
  • giving us feedback – we want to hear from you!

For everyone’s safety, rooms and balconies are non-smoking and no live candles are used. However, if these rules have been broken, we will send a separate sanction invoice of mimimum 150€.

If a security service has to be called to the hotel premises due to a customer’s behaviour (e.g. night-time noise), the customer will be responsible for a security service charge.

Our motivated and professional staff is ready to serve you with open arms, each with their own personal style. We wish that our unique, family-owned hotel and the modern spa will delight all the visitors of Hanko for many generations. Warmly welcome!
